Eha-Amufu Diocese at a Glance

Eha-Amufu Missionary Diocese was created from Nsukka Diocese. It is a one Local Government Area Diocese. Nsukka was made up of seven Local Government Areas but during the creation of this Missionary Diocese no other Local Government Area agreed to go with them due to their apathy to Diocesan functions.

It is complete rural Diocese without a single urban or semi-urban to boast of. The entire Local Government Area is made up of peasant farmers and petty village traders.

At the Inauguration of the Diocese and the enthronement of the Bishop on Wednesday 14th January, 2009, the Diocese could not boast of any property of her own except ten plastic chairs – No house, no office for the Bishop, no vehicle. Only few Churches were properly built; most were thatched houses. But thank God things are gradually changing.

History of Eha-Amufu Diocese

We started with twelve Clergy men and twenty-four recognized Churches but by the grace of God today we have over fifty Clergy men and thirty-five Lay Pastors. The number of the Church has also increased from 24 to about 65 Churches. Some of the Churches today have good Church buildings and Pastors' houses.

But we still have 17 Churches that do not have good places of worship; some still use bamboo and palm-frond make-shift houses, public primary schools and people's homes as places of worship.

In infrastructure development, we have been able to build Bishopscourt, Cathedral nearing completion, two secondary schools both in the farm settlements and one primary school. Many of our Parishes have also built Nursery/Primary Schools. Our women Ministry established Piggery Farm.
